How to determine your ring, bracelet, and necklace size? Everything you need to know for the perfect fit

Why size is very important

Choosing the right size for jewelry is often trickier than it seems. A ring that is too tight, a bracelet that slips off, or a necklace that doesn't hang beautifully can ruin the entire look. Moreover, you want your jewelry to not only look stunning but also to be comfortable and safe to wear. In this guide, we explain step-by-step how to determine your ring size, wrist size, and necklace length. We provide practical tips, useful tables, and common mistakes to avoid. This way, you can be sure that your new jewelry will fit perfectly and complete your style.

  • Comfort: No pinching rings or loose bracelets.
  • Safety: Prevents loss of jewelry.
  • Style: The right length and fit ensure an elegant look.

Determining ring size

At Verde Diamonds, you can order a free ring sizer with your purchase. We will send it to you so you can be 100% sure of the correct ring size.

Choosing the right size is important. You want to prevent your ring from being too tight or too loose.

To help you with this, we have compiled size charts, but if you still have doubts, you can always choose (when ordering an item, under the size filter) to order a ring sizer. We will send it to you first, and then you can provide us with your exact size. We will then ensure that your ring is made to the correct size.

If you want to get started right away at home, you can easily determine your ring size with household items. Wrap a narrow strip of paper or a string tightly around your finger, mark the point where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimeters with a ruler. This circumference directly corresponds to your ring size. This simple method prevents a ring from being too tight or too loose, ensuring you always choose the perfect fit.

Ring size chart (EU - US - UK - Diameter)

Average ring size for women in NL:

  • Ring size: around 53-56 mm circumference (diameter ± 17-18 mm).
  • This corresponds to EU size 17–18 and US size 7–8.

How should a ring fit?

  • Not too tight, not too loose
A ring should slide smoothly over your knuckle, but not so loose that it easily falls off.
    • If you can turn it without effort, but it doesn't slide off by itself, it fits well.
  • Knuckle is decisive
Often your knuckle is slightly thicker than the base of your finger. The ring should be able to pass over it without pain, but not too loosely.

Heat and cold:

  • Warm fingers = slightly thicker
In warm conditions (summer, exercise), your fingers expand.
  • Cold fingers = slightly thinner
    In cold conditions, they contract.
Therefore: measure your size at a neutral moment, not immediately after exercise or in the cold.

Wrist size for bracelets

At Verde Diamonds, you can order a free wrist sizer with your purchase. We will send it to you so you can be 100% sure of the correct wrist size.

To help you with this, we have compiled size charts, but if you still have doubts, you can always choose (when ordering an item, under the size filter) to order a bracelet sizer. We will send it to you first, and then you can provide us with your exact size. We will then ensure that your bracelet is made to the correct size. When you proceed with the order, you do not have to pay for this bracelet sizer.

If you want to try it directly at home, you can also measure your bracelet size quickly and accurately with a string or strip of paper. Wrap it around your wrist, mark the overlapping point, and measure the length in centimeters. Then add 1–2 cm for a comfortable fit. Divide the number of CM by 2.54 to get the inch size.

Bracelet size chart

Average bracelet size for women in NL:

  • Wrist circumference: average 16 cm.
  • Bracelet size: 7-8 inches or 18–20 cm (wrist circumference + 0.5–2.5 cm for comfort).

How should a bracelet fit?

  • Comfortable, not constricting
A bracelet should be loose enough to move freely, but not so loose that it slips off your wrist.
  • Play is important
Usually, you add 1.3 cm to 2 cm to your wrist circumference for a comfortable fit.
    • Tight fit: +0.5 - 1 cm
    • Normal fit: + 1 - 1.5 cm
    • Loose fit: +1.5 - 2 cm
  • For daily wear: normal fit (+1 cm) is ideal.
  • For heavy bracelets or bangles: 1.5-2.5cm a little more room, so they don't pinch.
  • For adjustable bracelets: can be a little tighter, as you can adjust them.
  • Do not go more than 2.5 cm larger than your wrist circumference, then you run the risk of your bracelet slipping off.

As with rings:

  • Warm days: wrist can become slightly thicker.
  • Cold days: wrist shrinks.
So measure at a neutral moment.

Choosing necklace length
  • You can easily measure your necklace size at home with a string or ribbon. Place the string around your neck at the height where you want the necklace to fall — for example, snugly like a choker, just below the collarbone, or lower on the chest. Mark the point where the string meets and measure the total length with a ruler or tape measure. This will show you exactly which necklace length best suits your neckline, body type, and style preference. This method works for all necklace types, from short chokers to longer pendants.

    Necklace size chart

Average necklace size for women in NL:

    • Most popular length: 17 inch - 45 cm (falls on the collarbone).
    • Other popular lengths:
      • 16 inch - 40 cm (short, choker style)
      • 20 inch - 50 cm (just below collarbone)

    How should a necklace fit?

    • Not too tight, not too loose
A necklace should fall comfortably at the desired spot (neck, collarbone, chest) without pinching.
    • Play is important
For a natural look, add approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) to your neck circumference.
    • Consider style:
      • Choker: 14–16 inches (snug around the neck)
      • Princess: 18 inches (classic, on collarbone)
      • Matinee: 20 inches (just below collarbone)

    Warmth and movement

    • In warm conditions, your skin expands slightly, so measure at a neutral moment.
    • For a choker: measure snugly, but add 1 inch for comfort.
Necklace length (inch) Length (cm) Where does the necklace fall?
16" 40.6 cm Snugly around the neck (above collarbone)
17" 43.2 cm Just on the collarbone
    18"
    45.7 cm Classic length (princess)
19" 48.3 cm Just below the collarbone
20" 50.8 cm Towards the top of the chest
